Like many other districts nationwide, LCPS faces a bus driver shortage and continues to hire and train new drivers. During the 2020-2021 school year, LCPS bus transportation staff delivered 325,475 meals while covering 91,230 miles. In addition to transporting students, transportation staff get to know students and families in a unique capacity. It takes a lot of care and precision to do the job. LCPS bus drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, performing daily pre-trip inspection and safety checks, following an assigned route and schedule, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and enforcing safety rules. ![]() In addition to home to school bus services, our bus drivers also provide transportation services for field and athletic trips, for students with special needs and alternative education programs. LCPS maintains a fleet of approximately 790 school buses that travel 8.4 million miles per year. To celebrate, the Transportation department provided staff with breakfast at several high schools around the division.
